Journey along the Dunes Express route aboard the prestigious Rovos Rail train, which combines contemporary facilities with Edwardian elegance, to cover the 3,440kms in comfort and style. This tour explores one of the most sparsely populated countries on earth, taking the title as ‘the cheetah capital of the world’, and teaming abundant wildlife with a medley of amazing landscapes from savannahs to scrubland and deserts. The adventure begins on the Atlantic shore at Walvis Bay, heading north to visit a cheetah sanctuary, and onward for a night in Etosha National Park, where birds and beasts in abundance meet at the waterholes. The train then turns south for Sossusvlei, its huge saltpan staying dry, sometimes for years; its landscape a mix of huge, wind-whipped sand dunes and deep rocky chasms. We spend time in the cosmopolitan capital, Windhoek, before traversing the Namibian reaches of the Kalahari Desert to visit the Quiver Tree Forest; call in at coastal Lüderitz, and the ghost town of Kolmanskop; and see the spectacularly scenic Fish River Canyon; and then enter South Africa, crossing the Karoo to Kimberley’s gold-rush country, enroute to journey’s end at Pretoria.
Air travel and taxes, transfers, 12 nights’ accommodation (13 nights' accommodation for 2025) in hotels/lodges/train,13 breakfasts, (2025 - 12 lunches and 13 dinners), all drinks onboard the train, itinerary as described, services of expert local guides and representative.
