Encircling the Cyclades
Greece
8 nights 5 Departures Available
View All Dates & BookSpectacular seascapes, beautiful beaches, iconic cube houses in white and sky blue, and that rare blend of island simplicity and a cosmopolitan air, these are the hallmarks of the Cycladic archipelago. Sail on the small ship MS Galileo to visit ten of the fabled isles
Overview
From the famous to the unfrequented, each of the Cycladic islands retains its own distinct character. Cruising anti-clockwise in the Aegean, the small ship allows easy access to shallow harbours and secret coves, without the need for tenders, as we sail between the scattered isles and islets of the archipelago, going ashore at a varied selection to experience their diversity of style and tempo. Embarking in Athens, our first port of call is pretty Poros, in the Saronic Gulf, a skimming stone’s throw from the Peloponnese coast; before island-hopping amid the Cyclades, including swimming-stops at pristine Poliegos and in a beautiful Antiparos bay. Paros teams blissful beaches with Byzantine footpaths linking old-world villages. Remote and rugged Folegandros is an on-trend semi-secret now. With its caldera port and archetypal houses, Santorini is the group’s most photographed island. More glitzy Mykonos has long held the title as most hedonistic. A history of trade makes Syros, the island of Hermes, a happy blend of cultures; while Kythnos, close to Attica, is the uncrowded setting for thermal springs, sixty beaches and hundreds of chapels; and all form a swirl around the sacred isle of Delos, inhabited only by the spirits of the Gods.

Day 2 - Transfer to Marina Zea for a welcome drink

(B, D)
Day 3 - Enjoy a swim-stop at Poliegos before sailing to Folegandros
Enjoy a morning swim-stop at the nature island of Poliegos, uninhabited except by goats, monk seals and migratory birds. Sail in the afternoon to Folegandros, a splendidly scenic rock rising from the sea, where whitewashed houses hem small squares and stone alleys in clifftop Hora, (aka ‘Folegrandos town’), one of the archipelago’s oldest traditional towns, unspoilt, unhurried, and atmospheric.
(B, L)
Day 4 - Cruise to Santorini and relax or take our optional excursion
Sail to Santorini this morning. Enjoy free time to explore the island’s capital, Fira, its iconic cube houses tiered into the hilltop, and positioned with glorious sunset views over the sea to the two volcanic Kameni islands; or take the optional excursion to the archaeological site of Akrotiri, with ruins from the Minoan period; continuing to Oia village, carved into the cliffs and overlooking a huge caldera, now filled with water (approx. 77euros, bookable locally).
(B, D)
Day 5 - Enjoy a swim-stop before visiting Paros island
Enjoy a swim-stop in one of the beguiling bays of easy-tempo Antiparos, before making the short crossing to its sister-island, Paros. Explore independently or join an optional tour of the capital, Parikia, nestled on a hillside around the harbour and retaining a truly Greek authenticity; and continuing to the photogenic little port town of Naoussa, with fishing boats in the foreground, Venetian fortress ruins, and plenty of pavement tavernas (approx. 60euros, bookable locally). Enjoy a traditional Greek Night this evening. Sail toward Delos.
(B, D)
Day 6 - Visit Delos island with an optional tour, before continuing to Mykonos
The island of the gods, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, an inimitable open-air museum, and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Delos was revered as ‘the most sacred of all islands’. An optional tour of the archaeological site follows in the footsteps of ancient Greeks and Romans, passing Doric temples, the Terrace of Lions, an amphitheatre, and dwellings adorned with mosaics (approx. 65euros, bookable locally). Cruise to Mykonos, stopping to swim at one of the island’s bays before sailing into port.
(B, L)
Day 7 - Enjoy a morning swim in Mykonos before cruising to Syros
There is time for a morning swim in Mykonos before we sail to Syros, the administrative capital of the Cycladic archipelago, its hub of arts and culture, and boasting Blue Flags for all of its beaches. Enjoy the bays on a leisurely afternoon here, or take an optional tour of the island’s vibrant capital, Ermoupoli, viewing the marble streets, neoclassical architecture, and majestic squares which reflect its history, and enjoying authentic Cycladic cuisine (approx. 45euros, bookable locally).
(B, L)
Day 8 - Cruise to Kythnos, enjoy a swim-stop and tour before a farewell dinner
Cruise to Kythnos to swim in the clear blue waters of Kolona Bay, hemming a double-sided sweep of sandy beach; and continue to the mainland for Cape Sounion, topped by the Temple of Poseidon, and perfectly placed for fantastic sunsets. Return to Marina Zea for the Captain’s Farewell Dinner and your final night aboard.
