Much more than an introduction to Marrakech, this tour is an immersive experience of Morocco’s culture and character. Located within the historic medina, the intimate Angsana Riads, a heritage house of the prestigious Banyan Tree Hotels group. A favourite for JV guests, who are now its best customers, it puts you at the heart of the city’s history and mystery. The UNESCO World Heritage citadel was founded in the 11th century, with its fortunes made on trade in gold and ivory. Today, its red clay ramparts, pierced with twenty city gates and 200 towers, encircle thousands of labyrinthine lanes and alleyways, filled with the sights, sounds, and spicy scents of 18 souks, and focused on the mystics, musicians, and magicians of legendary Djemaa el-Fna square. Palm gardens, mosques and palaces provide an infusion of serenity, as does a Moroccan dinner on a riad rooftop terrace. With guided walking tours to show you all aspects of mesmerising Marrakech, we also offer an optional excursion exchanging the buzz of the city for the beauty of the High Atlas Mountains, to visit the rustic village of Imlil, literally ‘the end of the road’, where tarmac turns to mule tracks.
